Who is Leigh Hauck? - The Let Off Podcast

I’m Leigh, an Albertan bowhunter, shop owner, tech, outdoor marketer, and host of The Let Off Podcast. I’ve been hunting in one form or another for as far back as my memory goes, but it wasn’t until I turned 12 that I was gifted my first bow from the legendary bowhunter Archie Nesbitt – a gift that changed my life forever.

I quickly took to archery as the only means of hunting that I cared about. I began joining my father on his rifle hunting adventures throughout the world, bringing my bow to any place where an opportunity may lie for me to face a new species with my bow in hand. In the decade and half that I have been travelling the world with a bow in hand, I have successfully hunted 6 countries and have taken a third of North America’s big game species with a bow.

I began my journey in DIY archery setup and tuning when I was 15. After purchasing some aftermarket bowstrings that were just awful in every way, I quickly decided that I wasn’t going to rely on anyone for anything in archery ever again.  If I wanted things done right, I was going to do it myself. That was quite the head-first dive, now that I look back on it. From arrow building, to string making, I have developed a deep skill-set in every nook and cranny of an archery shop. I started selling some basic bow services, arrow building, and lessons out of my dad’s basement at 16, and grew this into a business which kept me as busy as I wanted to be while I was studying Finance at university in Canada.

I began shooting Tooth of the Arrow broadheads somewhere around 2018, and got connected with the owner, Luke, as he needed a part time employee to help with sales and marketing. Given the degree I was pursuing and my flexible schedule as a student, it was a perfect fit. Luke and I worked together to grow Tooth of the Arrow until I finished my degree and was at a crossroad. Would I pursue a path in the corporate world, working a 9-5 and let archery become a weekend hobby? Or would I commit my life to archery and bowhunting. Well, here I am!

5 years later, I have grown an online presence as an archery educator, specifically geared towards helping archers with the DIY spirit that I have to never rely on anyone for anything in archery. If it can be done in archery, I can teach you how to do it yourself.

Today, I work as an educator, bow technician, shop owner, and outdoor marketer in the greatest industry in the world. Beyond archery, I am a passionate guitar player/rock and roll enthusiast, hockey fan (go Flames!) and I love precision rifle shooting/reloading as well. But don’t worry, I have not stopped bowhunting!
